Sleep

Tonight, I sleep in complete peace. I've had a productive day, I'm free of guilt, I've been talking with the Lord throughout the day... Tonight, I sleep in complete peace.

Matthew 9:36-38

The world can be a cruel place.  We live in a world where parents sell their children to sex trafficking, friends betray each other for personal gain, governments restrict basic human rights, the media tells precious girls that they are fat and worthless, a car accident can take away a close relative, a cancer diagnosis forces patients to endure agonizing pain in hopes of a longer life... The world is a cruel place and yet Christians are able to take hold of the promises of God and ground themselves firmly in the salvation that comes in knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and as Savior.
What about the rest of the population?  What about young men who have grown up in the inner cities who know nothing but the need to survive by killing, stealing, and trusting absolutely no one?  What about the teens who have abandonment issues because all the people who have come in and out of their lives decide that they weren't worth their time?  What about the woman who has overcome societal male dominance and has her own multimillion dollar company but is lying on her death bed contemplating all the means to an seemingly meaningless end?  Can Jesus possibly not have compassion for them?  He sees them as harassed, helpless sheep.
Do not get comfortable.  There is so much work to be done for God.  There are many people who do not know Jesus and so we should pray that God would open up our eyes to see the pain inflicted upon unbelievers.  I hope that our hearts are continually moved with compassion towards the people who do not know Jesus.
